Ian Poole Disability Sport England National Boccia Champion
15 year old Ian Poole who is a member of the Cheshire Academy Boccia Club became the new Disability Sport England National Boccia champion (learning disabilities) when he beat the cream of the UK Boccia players at the national finals held in Liverpool.

Academy Coach Iain Chalmers was pleased with the youngsters performance especially under stress.

"Ian had a particularly difficult game against Graham Thomson from the Northern Region. Both players were very evenly matched with only millimeters deciding who was winning however after 3 games Ian was trailing 4 points to nil. With 11 of the 12 balls thrown things looked bleek and although Ian had a wonderful grouping of red balls surrounding the white jack, like a crown, his opponent had sneaked a ball through the melee to rest his ball against the white Jack. From this almost impossible position Ian threw a long lopping ball which smashed his opponents ball to the side allowing his own ball to finish resting against the Jack and with this he finished with the 5 closest balls to the Jack winning the match 5 points to 4."

Ians contribution was vital in ensuring that the North West Region Junior team collected the Winning Team Trophy.
