Academy director Jane Whetnall thanked the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich Mr Stan Davies for his inspired choice.

"Both the Mayor and the Mayoress are great fans of Cheshire Academy and principally the work it carries out with Special Olympics.

They were asked to light the full size Olympic Flame which stands in front of the Cheshire Academy in Crewe just prior to the Jonathans departure to the World Special Olympic Games. They were most impressed and delighted with all the athletes selected to compete at the games and were overjoyed at seeing the fist full of medals they returned with when the games were concluded. They were enthusiastic with the work that Jonathan was doing locally and especially struck by his happy and cheerful personality.

Jonathan Potter will hold the title for the year and will be given the opportunity to meet new people and demonstrate the tremendous enthusiasm and self confidence that characterises every aspect of his work within the Academy.
