Our work in the local community

Cheshire Academy and the local fire service children in a community in a tug-o'-war match

We are not only located geographically in the heart of Crewe, but we see ourselves being situated in the heart of our local communities activities and we take every opportunity to see that the children with and without disabilities who attend the academy are fully integrated into as many local initiatives as possible.

The name that the Academy has adopted - the Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Arts, is fundamental to role and its function in the community.

We have been a long standing supporter of events such as Crewe Carnival and we in partnership with Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council Leisure Services ensure that the wider community can see the achievements and talents of children with disabilities.

We fully involve ourselves with may of the local boroughs' Council Leisure Services initiatives in the sporting arena and often provide much of the disability sports impute to these events.

What community activities are held at the Academy?

The Academy runs regular Discos at Halloween, Valentines Day, Christmas and at Easter where members of the local community can come into the Academy and enjoy the lovely community atmosphere generated at the Academy. These activities see disabled and non- disabled children coming together and celebrating friendship.

Local organisations such as Crewe Fire Station recognise our work and they invite members of the Cheshire Academy to be involved in their annual Sports Days held on Macon Meadows in Crewe. These are usually held during July and this wonderful community event sees disabled and non-disabled children coming together. Events like these see the children of the local fire service, children from the Academy and from the wider community all uniting together in a real community activity.

The Academy is also accessed by a range of clubs and organisations such as Crewe Deaf Club who use our facilities for their monthly meetings. The members of Crewe deaf club run bingo evenings and take the opportunity to play boccia

The Academy also lets organisations such as South and East Cheshire Special Olympics use some of its facilities free of charge to support their many fund raising initiatives. The Academy has allowed South and East Cheshire Special Olympics to use it as a base for its many local initiatives

Crewe and Nantwich Borough Leisure services also use the Cheshire Academy to run some of their First Aid, Equity in Sport and Child Protection courses.
